Dr Rodney Cole Receives the Alf Dove Award

At a presentation on Monday 26th November the mayor of Basildon, David Dadds, presented Dr Rodney Cole with the Alf Dove Award.

Alf Dove was a long serving councillor and the Award is given to a worthy recipient each year for services to the community. Dr Cole was until recently chair of the Basildon Natural History Society and the Langdon Living Landscape project. His work on species record keeping was instrumental in Natural England awarding SSSI status to the Langdon Ridge.

Dr Cole in accepting the award spoke of those individuals who have supported his efforts for many years notably former Chair Gordon Reid and Conservation Officer Peter Furze. The event was attended by Dr Cole’s family, friends, and members of the BNHS committee as well as Basildon councillors.

Hi Rodney congratulations on the Alf Dove Award!!!
Please can you contact me about the Castle Point development plan. Castle Point ( according to BBC Look East ) has handed over more Green Belt land to developers than any other council in the country. The whole area was GRID LOCKED recently after sewge and water pipes burst… could you help indentify vunerable species so get SSSI status to some parts of this already densely populated area?
